About Us

Fresh Start Bakeries Europe began as the first international endeavor for the U.S.-based Fresh Start Bakeries. Back in 1985, McDonald’s Corporation and Fresh Start Bakeries made plans to build a bakery in Northern Germany. By 1988, dreams became reality when Fresh Start Bakeries’ first international bakery opened in Duisburg, Germany, called FSB Backwaren GmbH. With its opening, FSB Backwaren GmbH set the technology, quality, and value standard for all of its products in Europe.

From that point on, Fresh Start Bakeries Europe grew. In 1994, a bakery in Warsaw, Poland, was acquired. Another bakery facility was acquired the following year in Stockholm, Sweden, which is now the main producer of our ciabatta breads. Two years later, Fresh Start built a bakery in Madrid, Spain, followed by the construction of our Malmö bakery in Sweden in 1998. Fresh Start went back to Spain in 2002 to build the Barcelona bakery where we have unique topping and water splitting machines to create artistic and flavorful buns.
